Frequently Asked Questions

Sensory Impairment Care FAQs

Contact Our Team →
What does sensory impairment care include?
Sensory impairment care is tailored to the individual's assessed needs and preferences. Support may include personal care, help with daily routines, communication support, meal preparation, companionship, accessing the community and assistance to maintain independence at home.
Will I have the same carer?
Wherever possible, we aim to provide continuity through a consistent care team. This is particularly important where carers need to understand an individual's preferred communication methods, routines and sensory needs.
Can you support people with both sight and hearing loss?
We assess each person's individual needs before care begins. Where we can safely meet those needs, the care plan will identify the person's sensory requirements, preferred communication methods, risks and the support required from their care team.
Can you support me to get out into the community?
Depending on your assessed needs and agreed care plan, support can include attending appointments, shopping, social activities and accessing your local community. Our aim is to help you maintain relationships, confidence and independence.
How do you communicate with people who are deaf or hard of hearing?
Communication is personalised to the individual. We identify each person's preferred communication method during assessment and include this within their care plan. Support is then delivered in a way that promotes understanding, choice, dignity and involvement in decisions about their care.
How quickly can care be arranged?
This depends on your individual circumstances, the level of support required and suitable carer availability. Contact our team to discuss your needs and we can explain the assessment process and the earliest appropriate start date.
